BIRK shawl and BIRK scarf can be knitted in exactly the yarn you want, and with the knitting tension you like best. You can also help decide the amount of yarn yourself. The scarf and shawl in the pattern are just two examples that show how the scarf looks in different yarns with different knitting tension. The pattern is based on your wishes for size or desired amount of yarn. The pattern for scarf and shawl is therefore basically the same, and I simply call the shawl a shawl because it is large, and the scarf a scarf because it is smaller. The scarf is the same. On the scarf, I have used the tip about rounding.

Sizes
Scarf (small) and Shawl (large).

Measurements (after washing)
Measurements depend on yarn and blocking.
Scarf: approx. 115 cm.
Shawl: approx. 200 cm.

Yarn suggestions
Scarf: Cashmere Premium from Lang Yarns (25g/115m).
Shawl: Baby Alpaca from Lang Yarns (50g/170m)

Knitting strength (after washing and blocking)
Scarf: 22-24/10 in stocking stitch on 3.5 mm needles.
Shawl: 20/10 in stocking stitch on 5 mm needles. (The yarn is held double).

The knitting tension is not that important, you just knit until you have reached the desired size or used half of the yarn.

Indicative yarn quantity
Scarf (cashmere): 45 grams (2 skeins).
Shawl (baby alpaca): 300 grams (6 skeins).

Guide pins + accessories
Cashmere premium: 3.5 mm 40-60 cm.
Baby Alpaca: 5 mm 60 cm (the yarn is held double).

Workflow
The scarf is knitted back and forth from tip to tip.
