A Knitter's Tee
A Knitters Tee is a beautiful tee that can be worn with a thin blouse underneath as a slipover, or with bare arms as a t-shirt.
The tee has beautiful details consisting of horizontal stitches, twisted rib and beautiful shoulders shaped with reverse stitches. And don't worry, all the methods and techniques are described in detail in the pattern. It is knitted with a round neck that goes lower in the front than in the back.
It is knitted from the top down so you can easily adjust the length on the body if you want it longer.
March 2025: Updated version that includes tips for knitting the striped tee.
Sizes
1 (2) 3 (4) 5 (6) 7
Oversized
Overall width of the tee: 92 (100) 108 (115) 123 (131) 138 cm.
The tee should have a positive ease of about 10 cm for the same look as in the picture on page 4. I measure about 90 cm around the chest, and I'm wearing size 2 here.
Recommended yarn
The tee can be knitted in all fingering yarn with a running length of 400-425 m / 100 g.
The solid-colored models in the pictures are knitted in Mink/viscose/cashmere/wool from A Knitters World (AKW) in colors: Camel on the run and Chocolate cake (600 m/100 g).
The striped version is knitted in cashmere/silk (400m/100g) from AKW.
The "melted" version is hand-dyed Merino/silk from Knit By Moltrup in the color Sam (400m/100g).
Knitting strength (after washing)
Width: 26 stitches over 10 cm.
Height: 36 stitches over 10 cm.
Yarn quantity
200 (200) 200 (200) 200 (200) 300 g - Please note the small amount of yarn is due to the long running length of the mink yarn. Please convert if you use other yarn.
My best guess for the amount of yarn if you knit in regular fingering with a running length of 400-425 m/100g would be: 200 (200-250) 300 (300) 300 (3-350) 400 grams.
If you knit in stripes you will need more yarn. Divide the above yarn quantity in 2 and buy a little extra of the base color. For size 2, 150 g of base color and 100 g of stripe color were used.
Alternative yarn
- Camel/silk (400m/100g).
- Merino/silk (400m/100g)
- Alpaca/Silk/cashmere (400m/100g).
- Yak/silk (400m/100g).
Guiding pins
Circular needle 3.5 mm or the needle that gives the correct knitting tension.
Circular needle size 2 + 2.5 mm for rib.
Workflow
The tee is knitted from the top down.
It has turnbuckles on the shoulders, so they are nicely shaped.
A waist band can be knitted after assembly under the arms if desired. The knitted model on the ticket is knitted with a waist band.
