Beginner pattern - Wash cloth bunny

The washcloth is a great beginner project or leftover yarn project - or for those of you who just want to spoil the little ones with super delicious washcloths.

Size
The washcloth can easily be made larger or smaller by casting on more or fewer stitches. Experiment and find your favorite size. These will be approx. 12x12 cm

Yarn & yarn quantity
Organic cotton from Kreadeluxe (165m = 50 g). You will need about 10 grams of the main color, and less for the inside of the ears, so you can easily make several cloths from one skein of yarn. You will need 2 different colors, as well as a remnant of darker yarn for the face.

Knitting strength
24 stitches over 10 cm (needle size 3-3.5).
Note: the knitting tension can easily be different, but the size of the cloth will change.

Recommended needles
Circular needle size 3 (length 40 or 60 cm) - longer can of course also be used, but not necessary.

Abbreviations
Moss stitch : Knit over purl, and purl over knit.
Stockinette stitch: Knit on the right side and purl on the wrong side.
Edge stitch = sl st: The first and last stitch on the ear is knitted as an edge stitch, i.e. always a knit stitch, both on the right and wrong side.
RS: Right side

These 3 rabbits are knitted in the colors:
No. 15 (inside of ears no. 14), No. 14 (inside of ears no. 01) and no. 10 (inside of ears no. 08)

The cloth
Cast on 35 stitches on needle 3.

Knit 4 rows of moss stitch, start and end each row with a purl stitch so it automatically becomes moss stitch when you have an odd number of stitches on the row.
Then knit stockinette stitch, but the first and last 3 stitches on each row are knitted in moss stitch - purl 1, knit 1, purl 1. Continue until you have the same number of cm in length (-1 cm) as in width. This means if your washcloth measures approx. 12 cm in width, continue until you have knitted 11 cm. Now knit 4 rows of moss stitch as at the beginning and the cloth is now square. Bind off.

Face
The face is embroidered/sewn on with a dark colored thread - I prefer brown to black so it doesn't get too hard. I'm not an expert in embroidery so maybe you can do it better than me. Sew 2 eyes and a nose. Staple the ends on the back.

Ears (knit 2 pieces)
The outside of the ear: Continue in the same color as the cloth. You start from the bottom up. Cast on 5 stitches on needle size 3. Knit 4 rows stockinette stitch, start with a garter stitch,

REMEMBER the edge stitch on each row both at the beginning and
the end all the way up along the ear.

RS: Make an increase after the first edge st and
before the last one on the needle. Increase by lifting up the link between the edge stitch and the knit stitch, and knit it twisted. You now have 7 stitches on the needle. Now knit 5 rows stockinette stitch (Remember to continue with the km).

Now work again according to the same principle as before, increasing on the needle just after and just before the edge stitch. You now have 9 stitches on the needle. Work 3 rows of stockinette stitch. (Remember km). Repeat the increases after km and before km so that you now have 11 stitches. Then work 7 rows of stockinette stitch. (Remember km) Now decrease. Knit the two stitches just after the first edge stitch together, and do the same with the two stitches just before the last km. You now have 9 stitches on the needle. Now work 3 rows of stockinette stitch. (Remember km). Again, knit two stitches together just after km and just before km, so that you have 7 stitches on the needle. Work 5 rows of stockinette stitch.

Then decrease for the last time using the same principle after and before the edge stitch, you now have 5
stitches left. Knit 3 rows stockinette stitch and cast off. Leave a long end hanging to sew the ear on.

Inside the ear
Cast on 3 stitches on needle size 3 in a lighter color. Knit 2 rows stockinette stitch, start with a knit stitch, REMEMBER the edge stitch (knit stitch) on each row both at the beginning and end all the way up along the ear.

RS: Make an increase after the first edge stitch and before the last one on the needle. You now have 5 stitches on the needle. Now knit 5 rows of stockinette stitch (Remember to continue with the sl st). Now work again according to the same principle as before, increasing on the needle just after and just before the edge stitch. You now have 7 stitches on the needle. Knit 3 rows of stockinette stitch. (Remember the sl st). Make the two increases again after the sl st and before the sl st so that you now have 9 stitches. Then knit 7 rows of stockinette stitch (Remember the sl st).

Now you need to decrease. Knit the two stitches right after the first edge stitch together, and do the same with the two stitches right before the last st. You now have 7 stitches on the needle. Now work 3 rows of stockinette stitch. (remember sts) Again knit two stitches together right after the st and right before the st, so that you have 5 stitches on the needle. Work 5 rows of stockinette stitch.

Then decrease for the last time using the same principle after and before the edge stitch, you now have 3 stitches left. Knit 1 row of stocking stitch and bind off. Leave a long end hanging back to sew the inside of the ear to the outside of the ear, wrong side to wrong side. It fits so that there is just an edge around where you can see the outside of the ear on the inside. Sew the ears to the cloth and fasten all ends.
