Beginner pattern - baby bonnet
The baby bonnet fits a newborn or a doll (ASI Leonora) with a head circumference of approx. 34 cm. Perfect for a maternity gift or doll mother. The kiss is unisex and therefore suitable for both boys and girls.
Materials: Circular needles 3 mm and 3.5 mm, both approx. 60 cm (both 40 and 80 will do). 7 stitch markers. Wool needle and scissors. Double pointed needles or knitting needle. Measuring tape (picture 1)
Yarn : Organic wool from Krea Deluxe ( www.kreadeluxe.dk ). Less than 25 grams are used.
Knitting tension: Approximately 24 stitches over 10 cm on 3.5 mm needles (measured on a stockinette stitch swatch).
You can quickly knit a small knitting sample and see how many stitches you have on 10 cm by casting on approx. 30 stitches and knitting stocking stitch for approx. 2-3 cm. Then measure the middle 10 cm to see how many stitches you have. On this particular hat it doesn't make much difference whether you have 25 or 27 stitches over 10 cm, but it should be no more or less.
RECIPE
Cast on 66 stitches on needle size 3.
RIB EDGE
Now knit 2 cm rib (picture 2):
Rib: When you knit rib, the knitted piece becomes elastic. That's why it's often used as edges in, for example, the neck, sleeves and, like here, the edge of the cape. From the right side, you'll see that knit stitches lie over knit stitches, and purl stitches lie over purl stitches.
Row 1 (right side): Knit 2, purl 2. Continue like this until the end of the row. End with knit 2 stitches.
Row 2 (wrong side): Purl 2, knit 2. Continue like this to the end of the row. End with 2 purls.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you have knitted 2 cm.
Change to needle size 3.5 mm.
Now the rest of the cape must be knitted in garter stitch - also called garter stitch. You knit both from the right side and from the wrong side. Knit until the entire piece from the cast-on edge measures 10 cm, on the last row (from the wrong side) make 3 decreases evenly distributed. This means you make a decrease at the beginning, in the middle and at the end. You make a decrease by knitting 2 stitches together. (picture 3)
You now have 63 stitches on the needle. Now place stitch markers across the needle where you have 9 stitches between each marker. (picture 4)
INTAKES
Decreases are made as follows, starting from the right side. (The decreases shape the neck of the cape).
Now take in according to the following principle:
Row 1 (right side): *K7, K2 together* Repeat - end of row.
Row 2 (wrong side): Knit 1 row
Row 3: *K6, K2 together* Repeat *-* to the end of the row
Row 4: knit 1 row
Row 5: *K5, K2 together* Repeat *-* to the end of row
Row 6: knit 1 row
Row 7: *K4, K2 together* Repeat *-* across the row.
Row 8: Knit 1 row
Row 9: *Knit 3, knit 2 together* Repeat *-* to the end of the row
Row 10: knit 1 row
Row 11: *K2, K2 together* Repeat *-* to the end of the row
Row 12: Knit 1 row
Row 13: *Knit 1, knit 2 together* Repeat *-* to the end of the row
Row 14: Knit 1 row
Row 15: Now knit the entire row where you take all stitches together 2 and 2. That is, knit 2 together the entire row. (picture 5)
Cut the string off with a good long end of approx. 30 cm. Now pass the string onto a needle and through the last stitches and tighten. Sew the cape together down the piece with the decreases and one cm past. Sew on the wrong side. (picture 6)
ROUND EDGE ALONG NECK OPENING
Pick up 46 stitches around the neck opening on needle 3 with the right side facing you (picture 7). Insert the needle through the yoke from the right side and pull the string back so that it forms a "stitch" to knit on from the next needle. Knit 2 cm rib (knit 1, purl 1) and cast off.
BINDINGS
Now you need to make 2 ties on each front edge. You can either knit 2 cords of 20 cm on the knitting mill, or in the classic way on two double pointed needles.
Cast on 4 stitches on double pointed needles size 3 mm or 3.5 mm.
Knit the 4 stitches. Instead of turning the needle as you normally do, pull the knitting down to the opposite end and knit from the same side again. The string is forced over the knitting on the back each time and you will therefore have a string. Continue until the tie measures approx. 20 cm and bind off the 4 stitches. (picture 8)
The ends of the ribbons are now sewn on by hand at the ends of each side of the neck opening on the wrong side.
Then all ends are ready to be sewn and the cape can be used. Wash according to the yarn's instructions.
